Demystifying the College Application Season

Thursday, May 7, 2020

This workshop will review important information pertaining to timelines (when you need to finish everything), college application details, and procedures for applying to four-year colleges.  We will walk you through the major steps of the college admissions process and what rising seniors  need to do to prepare for a successful and stress-free application season. We will also lay out the basics of college admissions essays, discuss how you strategize which essays to write and when, how you write your essays, and how you make sure to include a holistic unique admissions strategy or story about you, the college applicant. 

At the end of the workshop, participants will have a better understanding of what essays they need to write and when, as well as what to include in your essays and how to make yours stand out from all the others.​

Rocking your College Admissions Essays

Thursday, May 14, 2020
7:30 - 9:00 PM (Pacific Time)​

Essays are without a doubt the most time consuming and stress-inducing aspect of the college application process. Knowing this, we work with our students to start preparing them as early as possible. In this workshop, we will discuss the details of what topics to include in your admission essays as well as how to avoid many of the common problems and clichés associated with essays. We will also spend time preparing participants on how to transition from finishing their Common Application Personal Statement and UC Personal Insight Questions to college supplement essay and activity descriptions. 
 
Participants of this workshop will walk away with detailed outlines for their Common Application Personal Statement and for their four UC Personal Insight Questions. Participants will also have a detailed timeline to follow with exact dates for when they should be completing their essays to stay on track and finish strong essays well before the hard deadlines.

College Selection Workshop: How to Build a College List

Thursday, May 21, 2020
7:30 - 9:00 PM (Pacific Time)

This workshop will go over the best resources to use for your college and major research as well as how to put together a college list that will be well-balanced with both dream schools as well as safety schools to achieve the maximum number of opportunities for college application success. 
 
When this workshop concludes, participants will be able to put together a list of at least ten colleges that would be a good fit for the participant as well as walking away with the tools and resources needed to be able to continue to research and identify ideal colleges and majors.

How to Put Together Resumes, Letters of Rec & Brag Sheets

Thursday, May 28, 2020
7:30 - 9:00 PM (Pacific Time)

This workshop will provide all participants with outlines for how to compose and develop their resumes and brag sheets (brag sheets are a special kind of resume that you submit to your recommenders so that they can more accurately write your letter of rec) in preparation for their college application season.  We will also work with the participants to help them identify which educator to ask for the all-important letters of recommendation and how to prepare for and better understand what to expect in the dreaded college interview. 
 
At the end of this workshop, participants will walk away with a resume, brag sheet, and a better understanding of which educators to ask for their letters of recommendation and how they can best get ready for their college interviews.

Essay Workshops

May 9, 16, 23, 30
Saturday, 2:30 - 4:30 PM (Pacific Time)

Learn how to write unique, memorable, and powerful college application essays that will make you stand out. During these Essay Workshops, students will be guided on their essays by our counselors and essay editors where they will be able to solicit feedback on their progress. In addition to essay feedback, our counselors will guide students on how to improve and polish their essays throughout the process. 
 
At the end of the series, the productive student will be able to walk away with their Common Application Personal Statement and outlines for their UC Personal Insight Questions. Each participant will submit a personal statement for a final review by our counselors at the end of the workshop series.
